How it works. Cuts are packed into bars with a first-fit decreasing, best-fit method, then many reordered attempts are tried and the plan with the least total stock is kept. Each cut uses the saw kerf, except where the last piece runs to the end of the bar. End trim is taken off each bar before cutting. Stock with a quantity (such as offcuts) is used first and never beyond the number entered; unlimited lengths are only used once that runs out. Each bar is then matched to the shortest available stock that holds its cuts, to keep total stock to a minimum. If there is not enough stock, the cuts that could not be fitted are listed. Weights use the kg/m figures from our Steel Sections Size Guide. Guide figures only. Actual stock lengths and saw kerf vary, so ask us to confirm before ordering.
